Obado makes first emotional public statement since leaving prison

Migori Governor Okoth Obado on Friday released his first public statement following his release from prison on Thursday night.

Obado thanked those who had stood with him and promised to abide the bail conditions set by High Court judge Jessie Lesiit.
The Migori county boss said his release would enable him to focus on his duties and enhance development in his county.
"Let me take this opportunity to thank the People of Migori, Members of the County Assembly of Migori, the Staff of the County Government of Migori, my supporters, my legal team, friends and my family for standing with me during this trying moment."
"I also thank the court for listening to our request and granting me the bail. This has now given me opportunity to effectively work for the people of Migori as their governor. I promise to respect the court and abide by the conditions it set," Obado said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
Part of the bail conditions is an order barring the Governor from discussing on the merits of the Sharon Otieno murder case, whether in public or in private.

The county chief is also blocked from going more than 20 kilometres near any of Homa Bay county's boundaries. '
His private home falls within the 20 kilometre distance meaning he will not be able to access his home even after the release.
Obado was also barred from making any contact with the family of the late Ms Otieno.
