I Was A Victim Of Love – Jacque Maribe Says As She Disowns Fiance Jowie

Jacque Maribe’s strategy to defend herself was detailed today when she appeared before Justice James Wakiaga. Her lawyers drew up a 12-page affidavit in which we got a glimpse of Jacque’s side of the story.

In number 7 of the affidavit, Jacque claims that:

I VERY MUCH REGRET THAT THE PROSECUTION DESPITE ALL MY READY COOPERATION HAVE CHARGED ME WHILST THEY HAVE NOTHING TO ASSOCIATE ME WITH THE MURDER, HAVE NO EXPECTATION TO GET ANYTHING TO CONNECT ME, AND KNOW I WAS AN INNOCENT LOVER.

Jacque’s defense largely depends on her claim that even though she was Jowie’s lover, she did not participate in any wrongdoing he might have done. The affidavit read in number 14 part ii:

THAT THE 1ST ACCUSED BURNT CLOTHES AT MY RESIDENCE. I RESPONSE I WISH TO STATE: …A. THE 1ST ACCUSED COULD, THEREFORE, USE THE SPACE ON HIS OWN, AND ANY OF HIS ACTIONS ARE NOT NECESSARILY SANCTIONED NOR ATTRIBUTABLE TO ME.

The affidavit went on:

B. I WAS NOT THERE(IF THERE WAS ANY BURNING) AND IT IS NOT ALLEGED THAT I WAS THERE WHEN ANYTHING WAS BURNT. C. I PERSONALLY WAS NOT AWARE, DID NOT ENDORSE, AND DID NOT AUTHORIZE ANY BURNING OF ANYTHING. D. THE INVESTIGATORS IN THE COURSE IF INVESTIGATING SHOWED ME WHERE THEY SAID FIRE WAS LIT. THE LOCATION IS NOT IN MY RESIDENCE NOR MY COMPOUND. IT IS AWAY FROM THE COMPOUND HENCE IT IS FALSE TO ALLEGE THE BURNING WAS WITHIN MY RESIDENCE.

This last section demonstrates what Jacque’s argument is; that because Jowie might have used her house or her property does not mean that she is culpable along with him for his actions.

This is also summarized in point 6 where the affidavit states:

I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT AND MY ADVOCATE HAS CONFIRMED TO ME, THAT CRIMINAL CULPABILITY CANNOT BE ON THE BASIS OF VICARIOUS LIABILITY. I HAVE NO VICARIOUS LIABILITY TOWARDS THE 1ST ACCUSED AS THE PROSECUTION’S PERSON OF INTEREST. HOWEVER, EVEN IF I DID, THE SAME WOULD NOT AMOUNT TO A BASIS TO CHARGE ME IN A CRIMINAL CASE.
