Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa has failed in the first attempt to amend the constitution to change the date of the General Election from August to December.
Wamalwa had sought to change the dates stipulated by the constitution through a bill presented the National Assembly.
The bill, however, flopped on the floor of the house as there were only 187 MPs, short of the 233 required to amend the constitution.
The constitution stipulates that the General Election will be held on the second Tuesday of August on the fifth year after the last General Election.
The development comes when various political leaders have introduced various proposals to change certain provisions of the constitution through a referendum.
ODM Leader Raila Odinga and his allies have called for the introduction of a parliamentary system of government while Third Way Alliance Leader has sought to reduce the number of elected leaders.
