Diamond’s ex-bodyguard exposes mistreatment he was subjected to for 5 years

Diamond Platnumz’s former bodyguard Mwarabu Fighter has lifted the lid on the mistreatment chamber that was the singer’s WCB office.

Mwarabu Fighter was fired in February this year after serving the award-winning musician for five years.

In July, Tanzanian entertainment outlets reported that Fighter was laid off after he asked Diamond Platnumz for a pay rise.

And now, in a recent interview with Bongo5.com, Fighter alleged that his stint at the WCB was marked with long work hours, low pay and poor conditions.

Mwarabu, who now owns a security firm, operates on short contracts with different people, including celebrities.

Fighter is currently working for popular Tanzanian actress and film director Irene Uwoya.

“My current client [Uwoya] and I agree on the contract terms binding us. Where I worked previously [at WCB], my bosses set the terms for me; I had no say. They’d tell me: ‘Tomorrow we’ll be going to this and this place’. I couldn’t object, or do other money-making engagements on the side,” Fighter told Bongo5.com.

“Currently, I take control of my own life and time; and I can work with anyone on contractual basis,” he said.

And the security man exposed the difficult work environment he was subjected to while contracted by Diamond.

“I was involved in boda boda accidents four times, when I was working for Diamond. He’d call me on my phone, and tell me: ‘Rush here, you are needed immediately’. Since I couldn’t object, I had to take boda bodas and rush to where he was. Mark you, his phone call came only 30 minutes to the said event,” said Fighter.

“He did not give me sick-offs; even in moments of pain, I had to serve him.

“In some instances, my salaries delayed. In certain occasions, my salary would not be remitted in full because ‘I was late for work’. It is Diamond, who made those deductions. I remember one day being told that my salary fell short of the contractually agreed amount by Tsh150, 000 (Ksh6, 600) because I was late for work by a few minutes.

“And having been punished for ‘lateness’ before, I would do everything possible, including hopping onto the risky motorcycles to beat time so that my salary would not be slashed,” said Mr Fighter.

Diamond Platnumz is yet to respond to Fighter’s claims, though his WCB reps, in a past interview, claimed Fighter was dismissed on disciplinary grounds.
