Migori Governor Okoth Obado has been dealt a major blow after he was charged afresh with two counts of murder.
Appearing at the Milimani High Court on Monday, Obado was charged with the murder of the late Rongo university student Sharon Otieno, as well as the unborn infant she was carrying at the time she was brutally murdered.
Before Judge Jessie Lessit, the Governor, alongside his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and his former aid Caspal Obiero, pleaded not guilty to the two counts of murder.

Last week, the prosecution had proposed that the Governor should be charged with two counts of murder since Sharon’s baby, a seven-month infant was confirmed to be his through DNA verification.
State lawyer Alexander Muteti argued this on the constitutional premise that life begins at conception, and therefore the baby’s life was cut short when the mother was brutally murdered.

According to autopsy results conducted by government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor, Sharon was stabbed three times on the neck, four times on the back and on the left side of the abdomen leading to the death of her baby.
Obado, who was expected to cast his vote in the ongoing Migori senatorial by-election, will now be detailed until Friday October 12, when the court will rule on his bail hearing.
