A man said to be between the ages of 28 and 30 was on Wednesday, February 19, found dead near his home in Kabiyet Village in Mosop, Nandi County, just over 24 hours after he posted a suicide message on Facebook.
Dennis Yego is said to have attempted to kill his 25-year-old wife, identified as Zeddy Jepchirchir, by stabbing her six times in the chest, abdomen, and hands before committing suicide early Wednesday. Yego attacked his spouse at 9pm Tuesday.
The incidents happened at least 24 hours after Yego took to Facebook Monday 8:05pm to write a brief-but-chilling post in which he wished himself a “peaceful rest” after he dies.
“Rest in peace to me (sic),” said Yego on the social media platform, attaching several pictures of himself.
In a subsequent Facebook post, Yego wrote: “Kama kuna mtu ananidai, then come before mid-day tomorrow (If I owe you anything, then meet me before mid-day tomorrow).”
Geoffrey Rotich, the brother of Yego’s wife, said he found his sister writhing in pain when he visited her at her Kabiyet home late Tuesday.
“She was bleeding profusely from the chest and abdomen, and I — immediately — hailed a boda boda, which took her to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital,” said Rotich.
Yego, who was the chief suspect in the stabbing of Zeddy, is said to have killed himself early Wednesday by hanging himself from a rope tied to a tree near his house.
Yego and Zeddy had two children (a 6-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl).
The body of Yego was taken to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital morgue, whereas his wife, whom he left for dead, was admitted in the same facility. Doctors say she is still in critical condition.
Nandi County Police Commander, Samson ole Kine, confirmed the incident Wednesday, saying Yego did not leave behind a suicide note.
Neighbours told K24 Digital that Yego and his spouse had — of late — been embroiled in unending marital dispute.
