Celebrated South African musician Yvonne Chaka Chaka has come out to deny any claims of her being deported from Uganda stating that all is well.
She was set to perform at the Enkuka concert organized by the Buganda Kingdom King on December 31st to usher the new year.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga released a press statement that the musician was banned on claims that she entered the country using a wrong visa. He said that she landed in the country with an ordinary visa when she was supposed to come with a working visa and noted that an ordinary visa cannot allow her to perform in any income-generating activity.
Bobi Wine, a fierce critic of President Yoweri Museveni, was not pleased with her deportation citing that the government was afraid of her songs of freedom.
Yvonne later released a video on her Twitter account to address those rumours of her deportation. She stated that all was well and explained why she was not able to perform.
I took a decision not to appear this evening at Enkuka, because there were just too many things that I could not understand or explain. If somebody had explained to me, I really would have understood. Not deported, not arrested, not captured. Everything is fine, everything is in order. I know my people are worried, my country is worried, my husband is worried….but I am fineYvonne Chaka Chaka
She went on to post her business class flight ticket stating that if she was deported, they wouldn’t pay for her business class ticket.
