Confusion continues to rock the return of exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna after the government insisted the NRM Kenya leader is welcome to Kenya.

This, despite the Canada-based barrister having been barred from leaving Frankfurt airport in Germany for Kenyatta International Airport on Tuesday, January 7.

Speaking to Daily Nation, the government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna clarified such hitches can be diplomatically sorted out by the relevant bodies.

“But that red alert is an issue that can be sorted by Foreign Affairs Ministry. The president’s clearance supersedes any other order,” he said.

Previously on Monday, December 30, Oguna noted Miguna who had a tiff over his dual citizenship will not be denied entry if all his travel papers and documents are in order.

“All his papers must be right and valid as per the travel regulations. We are governed by the rule of law,” he said.

The government's position was further affirmed by President Uhuru Kenyatta whose administration had accused Miguna of treason.

Speaking at the burial of the late veteran politician Charles Rubia in Murang’a on Monday, December 30, Uhuru said his government will guarantee freedom of all Kenyans as fought for by the country’s liberation heroes.

“Hakuna mtu ambaye amezuiwa kusema yale anayotaka kusema. Ata nasikia kuna wengine wanataka kupanda ndege warudi..waendelee..hio ni uhuru wao (no one has been denied the right to express their opinions. I have even heard some people saying they would like to board a plane and return back home, that is their right)," he told mourners.

The politician was first deported in February 2018 after he presided over the mock swearing of ODM leader Raila Odinga as the people’s president on Tuesday, January 30 at Uhuru Park.

In March 2018, he unsuccessfully tried to come back but was quickly bundled into Dubai bound plane.
