Lawyer Cliff Ombeta Comes To The Defense Of Babu Owino After Shooting Incident

Criminal lawyer Cliff Ombeta has come out in defense of his client, who is also the Embakasi East MP Babu Owino following his arrest on Friday morning after a shooting incident in a Nairobi club.

The lawyer said it prompted the vocal MP to defend himself after his security and safety were threatened while at the club in the city centre. Babu had been at the B club when he allegedly shot a DJ.

“He (Owino) was approached in a non-friendly manner by someone he considered a friend and caused the physical fight,” Ombeta said.

The lawyer added since last year his client had complained about threats to his life and had been forced to arm himself whenever he roamed the different joints in the city.
Ombeta emphasized Babu had not intended to shoot but only found himself at a point where he was compelled to do so, saying it was a “comprehensible” scenario.

The lawyer also said Babu had taken the victim to hospital and even paid his bill, promising to clear it until the shot DJ gets better.

Ombeta could not forget clearing that Babu is a licensed gun holder and he regretted the act, saying he will be ready to cooperate with the police in investigating the matter. The police are currently in hold of the gun.

Mr. Owino had gotten himself in the receiving end last week after he put a post insulting Kandara MP Alice Wahome for allegedly disrespecting the President and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
