Police have arrested an ex-convict for killing his four- year- old cousin on Tuesday evening under unclear circumstances in Kimandeni village, Kilungu sub-county.
Alex Makumi, 23, is said to have strangled the boy, and dumped the body in a nearby maize farm.
According to the sub-county police commander Joseph Kipkulei, the suspect had been left with the minor and other children at their homestead when he committed the murder.
‘‘THE CHILDREN HAD BEEN LEFT WITH THE SUSPECT AT HOME WHEN HE TOOK THE MINOR AND KILLED HIM”, SAID THE POLICE COMMANDER.
Kipkulei said the ex-convict confessed to the killing saying the father of the minor, who is also the suspect’s uncle had threatened to kill him on several occasions.
‘‘HE ALLEGED THAT THE UNCLE HAD BEEN DISRESPECTFUL TOWARDS HIM”, HE SAID.
The police commander said the ex-convict had been released last December from prison for drug-related charges.
Police had a hard time dispersing an irate crowd that wanted to lynch the suspect and were forced to fire in the air to disperse it.
The body has been taken to Kilungu sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem.
