Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi Released, Denies Agreeing To Out Of Court Settlement

Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has been released on free bond.
According to the blogger, his was freed on Tuesday after his lawyer Cliff Ombetta argued that the sting operation that led to his arrest was a set up by Nurdin Tinta Akasha.
“I was finally released on a free bond yesterday after my lawyer @OmbetaC protested the sting operation that was led by one of Akasha brothers son aimed at planting money and media on the scene in order the set me up,” he wrote on Twitter.
He further dispelled reports by the Standard Newspaper that he opted for an out of court settlement, adding that news circulating are being controlled by the Akasha brother.
“Let me confirm that I have not made any deal for out of court settlement as reported by standard, don’t believe the media says. Everything @DCI_Kenya and media are reporting is controlled by Tinta Akasha, the lead investigator in the Sting operation,” he added.
Nyakundi who was apprehended at the Westgate Mall on Monday as he allegedly collected a Sh1 million bribe from business executives also noted that the Akasha brother tried to get his hands on the CCTV footage from the mall.
“Yesterday, Tinta Akasha went to westgate and demanded for CCTV footage but they refused to give him,” Nyakundi continued.
His lawyer, Ombetta also confirmed his release saying, “He is out on police bond.”
DCI on Monday indicated that the blogger was arrested alongside Emmanuel Nyamweya Ong’era as they solicited for a bribe from Victoria Bank executives in order for them to pull down libelous articles from their website.
“Detectives based at Gigiri have today afternoon arrested two suspects namely Cyprian Andama Nyakundi and Emmanuel Nyamweya Ong’era after successful investigations touching on extortion, blackmail and false accusations,” DCI tweeted.
