Kiambu County Assembly officially passed a vote of no confidence on governor Ferdinand waititu on Thursday.
The ouster was tabled by Hon. Solomon Kinuthia who represents Ndenderu ward in the County Assembly and had the majority of members present endorsing it.
68 MCAs voted in favour of the governor’s impeachment and 1 was against the motion. The governor is accused of unlawfully securing county tenders to his associates and close family members.
The member in defending his petition said he was helping the County prevent the risk of loss of public funds and suits that may be filed by the workers the governor had illegally employed and fired.
Waititu is said to have snubbed the County Public Service Board in employing more than 600 casual workers whom he later fired without the essential procedures. This would, in turn, expose the county to suits by the laid-off workers.
Governor Waititu is also accused of using force in taking a property that was owned by a widow in Thika.
