Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima alias King Kaka finally spoke out following his alleged summon to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Tuesday, December 17, 2019.
While the rapper had claimed he was called to present himself to the directorate, the DCI denied, terming it as false information.
Speaking outside the investigative agency's offices along Kiambu Road, the rapper was quick to point out that his latest song titled Wajinga Nyinyi was an exercise of his freedom of expression, adding that he feared for his life.
"I've played my part as a Kenyan and as a creative and I think since we are all talking about the same thing, it shows that it's affecting us in one way or another, he stated.
"I have a family and I need security, I am very scared to a point where even a light breeze blowing through my house sends me into panic mode. I have received countless threats on various platforms," he added.
Several musicians turned up in support of the embattled rapper, with gospel artist Juliani making it clear that artists were protected by the constitution and that it was well within King Kaka's rights to air his views, regarding the current state of affairs, without being victimized.
Kenyan songstress Wahu was also part of the crowd gathered outside DCI headquarters and she reiterated that every Kenyan had a right to express themselves without intimidation.
"I think it's about time that we stop dodging around issues. We have to speak truth to power. This is the only way Kenya is going to wriggle itself free of corruption," she remarked.
King Kaka on his part maintained that Kenyans should treat their political leaders as servants, urging them to demand more from their elected representatives.
"We have all the resources but most of our politicians are not utilizing them in the right way. Remember that we are the ones who elected them and so we should be able to question them, he stated.
"It shouldn't be that these leaders only come to us when in need of votes only to disappear after they've won. We are their bosses and we should question them," the rapper advised.
