Nairobi governor Mike Sonko on Monday arrived at the Milimani law courts to answer to corruption charges at City Hall after DPP Noordin Haji’s order.
He was charged with Sh357m fraud alongside several other City Hall officials. Sonko spent the weekend at EACC cells awaiting his arraignment on Monday at the Milimani Law court.
The governor’s legal counsel includes; Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen of Elgeyo Marakwet, Dan Maanzo-MP Makueni and lawyer Nelson Havi.
Other lawyers are; Cecil Miller, George Kithi, Alphonse Mutinda, Osundwa Michael, Harrison Kinyanjui and three others.
The reason Sonko was secretly moved from EACC cells to Kiambu at night
Kamene and Kibe called Nairobi Senator, Johnson Sakaja to give his take on the fact that Senator’s are defending Sonko as his lawyers. He said,
“I think the first thing is we are in a county that must have law and order. so many allegations on corruption have been happening in Nairobi There could be an issue with his arrest but he needs to go through the court process. guys in a higher position in the government need to know the days of impunity are over.”He added,“Hiyo ni ufala sana. I’ve never seen anything bad like that. It is a complete conflict of interest. It is your right to have the lawyer of your choice and best legal advice but you cannot be a Senator who is supposed to defend your County and then defend a case on corruption. Ultimately this issue will come back to the Senate so will they come as his lawyers to defend him or as leaders of the Majority and Minority of the Senate? If they speak they speak as the Minority and Minority. It is ruining the work of the Senate to protect counties. Senate must be impartial. What they are doing defending him is showing the side they are on which is not for the people.”
News reaching Kamene and Kibe is that Sonko has been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.
