Evanson Kibumba, an 83-year-old man from Embu is today paying for a crime he allegedly committed 50 years ago.
The man was taken to court over land grabbing where he has been found guilty and sentenced to 30 years in prison with an option to pay a 1.2 million fine for the 12 million worth land he grabbed. The old man has been found guilty of forging land transfer papers and purporting it had been transferred to him by Kamara.

Kihumba claimed he bought the land from Paul Kamara (deceased) at the Embu district’s land office on December 18, 1968. The land belonged to one Nyaga Kombuthi who died in 1970.
His lawyer, however, believes that the sentence was too harsh for his client especially with his age. He said that his client suffers from diabetes that requires him to inject himself with insulin twice a day to survive and also Parkinson’s disease.
