A 60-year-old man has been freed after he denied indecently assaulting a 9-year-old girl in a matatu on the Marua-Chaka road in Nyeri.
John Nderitu Mbogo had appeared before Chief Magistrate Nelly Kariuki.
He was released on Ksh. 200,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount.
The case will be heard on July 24.
A local newspaper said the 9-year-old girl had survived another rape ordeal and this was the second time that a man sexually assaulted her.
She is said to have lost consciousness when she alighted from the Nyeri matatu that she and grandmother had boarded.
As soon as the Class 3 pupil came to, she narrated how the man had allegedly sexually assaulted her.
According to the grandmother, they had boarded the Sieta Sacco matatu plying the Marua-Chaka route on Tuesday afternoon.
The suspect asked to help her carry one of the two children who had accompanied her so she agreed and handed over one of them.
