Giant telecommunications company Safaricom Limited has hit back against Kenyans who bought mega data and airtime bundles during a system hitch on Friday morning.
The technical glitch awarded customers mega bundles who opted to pay using a customer reward system known as bonga points.
Some customers who talked to The Evening Post indicated they had taken advantage to buy bundles worth over ten thousand for only a hundred bundle points.
The error was rectified a few hours later, but not before a sizable number of Kenyans, majority of them youthful, had enjoyed the free party.
For several hours, Safaricom did not issue a statement on the matter but it has now emerged that several customers have had their bundles recovered.
KTN journalist Mwangi Mwaina, one of those who received the generous package, complained that his 64 GB data package had mysteriously disappeared, after which Safaricom delivered the bad news.
"Hello Mwangi, the data bundle which were erroneously awarded have been recovered," the telecommunications company said on Twitter.
Several other customers complained that the packages bought this morning had disappeared without notice.
However, there are others who, at the time of publishing this story, were still enjoying the generous packages - leaving questions on how Safaricom will treat data and minutes that have already been spent.
