Former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi has been ordered by the High Court to pay a Ksh1 billion fine for land grabbing.
The former head of state is supposed to pay Susan Cheburet and her son David Chelugui the said amount after he was found liable for grabbing their land.
The two are the next of kins to the original owner of the property in question. Susan is the widow and David the son to Noah Kipngeny Chelugui.
High Court judge Antony Ombwayo made the judgment on Thursday afternoon.
This comes as a big blow to Moi and his family after just losing his son, Jonathan Moi, to cancer.
The two beneficiaries had sued the former head of state for alleged grabbing their land that was owned by their deceased father.
In 2014, the current Kitui governor and former Lands CS Charity Ngilu petitioned the land registry to expedite the case.
The 53 acres of land is said to be at a prime location within Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county.
Among the respondent with Moi in the case were Rai Plywood (K) limited, registrar of titles, District Land registrar Uasin Gishu and the National Land Commission.
After the judgment was pronounced, Kenyans were quick to react with some praising the judge for such a decision which they termed as brave.
