Al Shabaab Militant Surrenders to KDF Days Before Attack

An Alshabaab militant on Thursday voluntarily surrendered to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in the town of Bura Hache along the Kenya-Somalia border.

According to intelligence reports, the 24-year old Kenyan born fighter, Hassan Hussein, had just completed his training and was planning an attack.

The attack was supposed to happen in Wajir or Mandera where he had been deployed.

“He joined AS in August 2018 and just completed training a month before Ramadan and was in the process of deployment along Wajir-Mandera,” part of the report read.

The militant also laid down his AK47 firearm and four magazines and surrendered pouches he was given by the militia group.

Hussein was born in Bangal, Tana River County.

In the last two weeks, KDF soldiers and officers in the North Eastern region have been on high alert following reports that Al-Shabaab fighters were crossing into Kenya.

In April, the soldiers, who are part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom), killed three Al-Shabaab terrorists and captured another in the same town of Bura Hache.

The Defence Ministry issued a statement indicating that they had confiscated two AK 47 rifles, one SLR rifle, and assorted ammunition.
