Bus company Neo Kenya Mpya has issued a statement following an accident at Kahawa Sukari along Thika Road that led to the amputation of a woman’s leg.
Through a statement seen by Ureport, the company confirmed that the accident occurred on April 3, 2019, and the bus involved has since been grounded.
Also, the statement further revealed that the company would settle the woman’s hospital bill and ‘lighten her burden’ as much as possible.
“We have a comprehensive insurance cover and as such we have reported to our insurers (Directline Insurance) to ensure that first and foremost, the financial hardship is catered to on behalf of the victim and her family.
“We have ensured that she has undergone treatment in hospital but unfortunately she had her leg amputated,” said the company.
Kenya Mpya acknowledged that the bus was at fault in the accident and expressed regret at causing the woman pain.
Further, it promised to follow up with all accident victims in future to ensure they are given the best care.
Following the accident, there was uproar on social media and most Kenyans urged NTSA to revoke the company’s license due to repeated cases of negligence and careless driving.
Most users of the busy Thika Superhighway also pointed out that most of the buses exceed speed limits and put the lives of passengers and other road users at risk.
