A case in which a man is accused of allegedly impersonating and conning several MPs using the name of Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege has been deferred to October 2019.
It was, however, the first time the accused, Wazir Benson Chacha, and his accusers Sabina and former MP Jakoyo Midiwo appeared together in public after he hit headlines in April 2018.
On Thursday, April 3, the former Devolution Ministry employee stood in the dock, few steps from where the legislator sat, in a case that saw Sabina sought for adjournment citing unpreparedness.
Through her lawyer, the Murang'a politician told Chief Magistrate Roselyn Ogayo she needed to be given more time to prepare her testimony against the suspected conman who reportedly slept with a total 13 MPs.
Her request was, however, unsuccessfully protested by the defense legal team which argued the case had dragged on for far too long and it would be unfair to the accused if the court did not decide it.
The 26-year-old IT graduate maintained his innocence and even alleged his tribulations were a product of love gone sour between him and Sabina, a position the latter vehemently denied.
Others leaders, including Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa, Peter Munya and Margaret Kobia are reported to have wired money to Chacha's fake M-Pesa account registered in the Murang'a county MP's name.
