A 31-year-old man in Rachuonyo East Sub-County, Homa Bay County reportedly took his own life on Monday night after his wife failed to answer his phone calls on Easter Monday.
Erick Ooko, who hails from Kadie Village in Kawuor Location, is said to have ingested an insecticide known as Triatix.
Area Chief Samuel Oloko confirmed the incident, saying Ooko, who operates a boda boda business, drank two bottles of the poison.
He revealed that the man had a domestic row with his wife before she left their matrimonial home last week.
The wife was supposed to return home on Wednesday April 24, but when the man attempted to reach her, the woman allegedly declined to pick his phone calls.
Ooko is then said to have proceeded his parents’ home on Monday evening and told his father that he was returning to a nearby trading centre to send his wife bus-fare.
However, he instead went straight to his house, locked himself in and took the poisonous substance.
The chief said Ooko died shortly after consuming the substance.
Locals, who rushed to the scene, after receiving information of Ooko’s death, said the man had a passport size photo of his wife in his pockets.
His body was moved to Rachuonyo Sub-County Hospital mortuary as investigations begin.
