Details have emerged on Jonathan Moi’s troubled life and frosty relationship with his father former President Daniel Moi after the two fell out.

Nation reports that the frosty relationship between the two was as a result of Jonathan’s cordial relationship with his mother Lena Moi even after retired President divorced her in 1974.

The publication further reveals that Jonathan was unhappy that his father appeared to favour Baringo senator Gideon Moi and even allegedly transferred most of his property to the Baringo Senator.

As family ties weakened, Jonathan opted to put up his home near his mother's residence in Kabimoi while the rest of his siblings remained close to their father in Kabarak.

Reports further indicate that the rest of the siblings rarely saw their mother who passed on in July 2004.

The frosty relationships would escalate in full-blown conflict and disagreement in 2004 with a heated exchange between Jonathan and Gideon as the family convened to plan Lena’s funeral.

A participant at the tense meeting told Nation that an angry Jonathan shut down Gideon when he attempted to address the meeting.

The source told the publication that Jonathan interrupted Gideon, stating: "Simply because transferred most of his properties to you doesn't entitle you to become our spokesman".

Jonathan was eulogized as a humble and generous man who lived a simple life despite having a billionaire father and coming from the politically connected Moi family.

Mzee Moi on Saturday paid glowing tribute to Jonathan revealing the special relationship they shared and acknowledging that the deceased was not a perfect man.

In the moving tribute delivered by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Mzee Moi acknowledged that "You (Jonathan) were not perfect, but you were my son. Blood of my blood".

The retired President revealed that his biggest achievement was getting the chance to be his father.

"Fathers shouldn't bury their children. A son should never be buried by his father but Jonathan's death was God's will. You are the blood of my blood. Stay well son until we meet again.” Read the tribute.
