One of the survivors of the Wednesday morning accident that killed 14 passengers in Matuu, Machakos County narrated how his wife had a nightmare about him dying in a road accident.
Shortly after the bus, named Medina, passed Mwingi town, Abdulrashid Mohammed's wife called him with surprising news.
She had just woken up from a terrible nightmare in which Mohammed had died in a road accident.
He reassured her that he was fine, and told her to go back to sleep.
30 minutes later, Mohammed, somewhat unsettled by his wife’s dream, watched as the bus rammed into a stationary lorry.
"I heard a loud bang on the left side of the bus, followed by wailing as the bus veered off the road and then stopped," Mohammed told Nation.
Giving a recap of the journey, he recalled that the driver had been overspeeding and ignored complaints from the passengers.
"We kept complaining to the driver about loud music and speeding, but he turned a deaf ear, Mohammed recalled.
Mohammed Issack, who lost a brother, stated that the bus normally arrived in Nairobi at 2pm but on that fateful day, it had already reached Matuu Town at 4.30am.
It would have taken approximately two more hours to get to Nairobi, putting the estimated time of arrival at 6.30am.
The stationary truck, which the bus hit, was transporting raw gypsum from Garissa. It had been parked by the road after it developed mechanical problems.
The bus driver appeared to have slightly veered off his lane, as if he was overtaking but ended up hitting the lorry.
