A 24-year-old student at South Eastern Kenya University in Kitui killed herself Friday morning, citing “unbearable life” as the reason for her action.
The learner’s body was found hanging from a rope tied to the rafter of her rented house at Kwa Vonza Market in Kitui Rural.
Lower Yatta OCPD Charles Chacha has confirmed the incident, saying the student, who was pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree course in Information Technology, left behind a suicide note.
“Dear mum and dad, [I am] sorry I had to do this. I love you guys so much, but I can’t take it any longer [sic]. Life has become unbearable. I cannot live like this anymore,” said the student in her letter.
Unconfirmed reports say that the learner opted for suicide after her lecturer allegedly told her that she won’t graduate during a project presentation.
The student’s body was taken to Kitui Level Four Hospital mortuary for preservation.
Police say a postmortem examination would be conducted on her as investigations into her death continue.
In yet another suicide incident still in Kitui County, a 40-year-old man was found hanging from a rope tied to a tree near his homestead at Mwakini Village in Lower Yatta Sub-County.
The Friday afternoon incident was confirmed by Lower Yatta OCPD Charles Chacha.
Mr Chacha said the deceased’s wife reported that he had gone missing since Thursday.
The man’s body was moved to Kitui Level Four Hospital morgue.
