A video of detectives probing a man from Kajiado who had allegedly strapped stolen meat on his body went viral on Tuesday.
In the clip, one can make out the voices of several alleged officers questioning the suspect.
The unidentified man maintained that he had come across a goat while in the forest and that it was not stolen.
From the video, the suspect is seen fully dressed in traditional Maasai regalia, with a heavy coat underneath as well as a polo shirt to conceal the huge chunks of goat meat.
It was only after he undressed that the officers saw the well-packed pieces of meat neatly placed against his chest all the way to his back.
Once the video was posted across various social media platforms, scores of Kenyans came out in his defense, stating that the man was probably only trying to feed his family.
“A person stealing 10 kilos of meat to take home for his starving kids is more criminal and more likely to be jailed for life than the one stealing billions of taxpayers cash, plunging the country deeper into poverty,” stated one comment on Facebook.
Several Kenyans highlighted the fact the pieces of meat were probably worth less than Ksh 6000 thereby making his alleged crime a non-issue compared to the billions of shillings being mooted as stolen from various government projects.
“Politicians are doing worse every day. Stealing our children's future and our young mothers' lives,” another Kenyan reiterated.
Others were simply impressed by his ingenuity in concealment of the huge chunks of meat and called for him to be rewarded for his exceptional creativity.
