Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko has recounted her last conversation with her younger brother, Dr Hamisi Ali Juma, who died in Cuba on Sunday.
While on an interview with NTV, Mboko recalled her brother complaining about poor living conditions in Cuba about two weeks ago.
"Maybe two weeks or one week ago he had complained to me and he said that they were experiencing a lot of difficulties. He said that the payment they were getting is not what they had agreed [with the government] and he also complained about a lot of mistreatment.
"He was talking a lot and he had, in fact, decided to come back to Kenya. He said enough is enough, he does not need to study in Cuba and he was coming back," the MP narrated.
Did Dr Hamisi Ali Juma commit suicide?
Ms Mboko also addressed media reports that suggested that her brother had committed suicide.
She conveyed that the family had ordered a postmortem to be conducted under the keen eye of Kenyan government officials to establish the cause of death.
"I have talked to CS Sicily [Kariuki] and she has just confirmed to me that the postmortem is going on and she is also shocked that some messages are going round on social media that that [suicide] is what happened but that is a lie.
"They are also waiting for a report on the death and as a family we are also waiting for the official confirmation of what may have happened," she stated.
The government on Monday released a statement outlining that the doctor died in unclear circumstances on Sunday night.
The joint statement by CS Kariuki and Governor Hassan Joho also conveyed that the Kenyan Embassy in Cuba is working on ferrying the body of the doctor back to Kenya.
