Deputy president William Ruto has defended “rebel” MP Aisha Jumwa who was last week expelled from the ODM party.
Jumwa, Malindi MP, was ousted from the Raila Odinga led party for supporting the DP in his quest to clinch the presidency come 2022.
Speaking in Jaribuni on Saturday, Ruto said it is a shame that the party kicked her (Jumwa) out of the party, something that should not be happening in the 21st century.
He also maintained that no leader should seek permission to work with another whether from a different party.
“It is shameful for a party leader to convene a whole National Executive Council to plan how to expel a woman. Men with their beards sitting to discuss a woman is shameful. It is not acceptable in this 21st century.
What they are accusing Aisha of doing has been done by many men including the party leader. Why don’t they tackle the men and leave the woman alone? Any political party or political leader that organises and orchestrates to undermine women has no place in the 21st century,” the DP said.
He further castigated the UN envoy for allegedly trying to create rifts in the Jubilee party.
Ruto also noted that Jumwa’s expulsion is dishonest and a form of political conmanship.
The hustler has come under fire after he contradicted information indicating that Sh21 billion was lost in the construction of Kimwarer and Arror Dams.
On his part, Ruto told Kenyans that only Sh7 billion was yet to be accounted for.
The DPP Noordin Haji on Friday, however confirmed that indeed Sh21 billion was lost and involved are top government officials.
