Kenyan musician Avril has opened up on why she did not feature in Naiboi’s “2 in 1” song, despite the “Problem” hit-maker having approached her for the role.
Avril was tasked to explain her decision on the back of a new song called “Kenyan Girl” by Otile Brown, which she made a cameo appearance as an act.
A section of online users deemed the singer to be “snobbish” following her decision to reject Naiboi’s request, only for her to feature as a vixen in Otile Brown’s song a few months later.
The “Chokoza” star had taken to her Instagram page on Tuesday to drum up viewership for Otile’s new song, only to be met by Gram users, who wanted to know why she declined Naiboi and not Otile Brown.
An Instagram user, whose name is Faith Kiiru, said: “You [Avril] refused to appear in Naiboi’s ‘2 in 1’… It is okay. Let me accept [that] you [are] in Otile’s [new song].”
Not taking Kiiiru’s light jab lying down, Avril responded, saying: “[I have] talked about this [Naiboi issue]. I will not do that again. Enjoy the song.”
Another persistent Instagram subscriber, Josephine Lenah, triggered Avril to give a comprehensive explanation.
“You refused to do ‘2 in 1’ challenge yet Naiboi requested you to..,” said Lenah.
Avril, this time round, gave a detailed yet hard-hitting response. She said: “Yes, I couldn’t [feature in Naiboi’s song]. Unfortunately, I was in hospital. [If anything], I did not feel like getting into it with him. [Just] let people do what they got to do.”
“Kenyan Girl”, a new song by controversial artiste Otile Brown, aims at celebrating Kenyan women.
In the song, he has name-dropped celebrities such as Joey Muthengi, Amber Ray, Kanze Dena, Lulu Hassan, Vera Sidika, Huddah Monroe, Lillian Muli, Akothee, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, former Citizen TV news anchor Julie Gichuru, among others.
