Appearing on CNN, the reformed militant, whose name was hidden for security purposes, revealed that he met Gichunge, popularly known as Farouk, while training seven years ago.
He further revealed that Gichunge was a skilled interviewer who espoused an easy feeling when the conversation was underway.
"They'll eat with you but they are just interrogating you: 'How do you love Al-Shabaab? How did you come here? Why did you join Al-Shabaab?
"That sort of question, but we knew he's interrogating us," he narrated.
He further disclosed that he was shocked when he saw the CCTV footage, Gichunge in particular, who he recognised very well.
"I was shocked. When I saw the CCTV I said 'I know that guy!'" he continued.
He narrated numerous training sessions with a particular one where they were decapitating a prisoner of war.
As per the narration, the head of the prisoner was cut off where himself and other trainees were ordered to kick it around.
"That's part of the brainwashing. They told us it's part of the training. It's to reduce fear in you," he disclosed.
Gichunge, who reportedly perished after police quashed the Riverside attackers, was born and bred in Majengo slums, Nyeri.
21 people perished during the incident while several others were injured.
