A man and his wife from Nyakeore village in Nyamira county
have received a dog's beating from the area assistant chief for engaging in
making and sale of illicit brew.
The duo has been on the list of the chief's most wanted for
long and were hiding in liquor brewing dens while leaving their children
surviving at the mercy of the villagers.
In a viral video on social media, village elders are seen
whipping the two under orders of the assistant chief.
"And you the
residents of Nyakeore, how can you allow a woman to leave her family and just
watch her making illicit brew?" the sub-chief asked onlookers who had
gathered to witness the beating.
The merciless elders accused the woman of promoting
immorality in the society as she is never stable in her marriage and instead
keeps moving around the village looking for men.
However, it is not the first case of elders and chiefs
beating rogue villagers particularly those engaging in making and selling of
illicit brew.
Other people very common on the chief's list to receive the
famous beating commonly known as "bamba forty" include noise makers
and those who cause chaos in their families.
Several people have questioned the legality of such thorough
punishments with others accusing sub-chiefs of violating human rights of the
victims.
