Musician Ommy Dimpoz fighting for his life in hospital

Popular Tanzanian musician Ommy Dimpoz has been flown to Germany for advanced treatment after his health condition deteriorated significantly recently, his father, Faraji Nyembo, says.

Mr Nyembo said pus had formed in the lining of his son’s throat after he underwent a throat surgery in South Africa in April this year.

After the surgical operation, his condition slightly improved. It, however, deteriorated recently, forcing the musician’s kinsmen to fly him to Germany upon advice that he would get specialised treatment in the European nation.

“After being attended to in South Africa [in April], he went to Mombasa to rest. Three months later, when he went for medical check-up, it was discovered that his throat was oozing pus. He was treated in Kenya and allowed to return to Tanzania,” a source told Tanzania’s Ijumaa Wikienda newspaper.

While in Tanzania, his health condition worsened.

The musician’s father, Faraji Nyembo, has confirmed reports about Dimpoz’s treatment in Germany.

“I can confirm that my son was flown to Germany for advanced treatment recently. His ailment is degenerative, but we hope he improves. All I can request Tanzanians is that they pray for him so that he can fully recover,” said Faraji.

Ommy Dimpoz underwent throat surgery in South Africa nearly eight months ago.

Rumours about Ommy Dimpoz’s admission into the high dependency unit at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, surfaced online in August this year, when different Tanzanian celebrities claimed that the musician needed prayers, since he was “gravely ill in the ICU”.

Rockstar 4000 Entertainment manager, Seven Mosha, who also manages Ommy Dimpoz’s music career, said at the time that the “Baadaye” hit-maker was “doing fine, and responding well to treatment”.

“Recently [August, 2018], the musician went for medical examination in hospital; an exercise he is supposed to do after every three months. The doctors say that would help in monitoring his health progress,” Seven Mosha told Tanzania’s MCL Digital.

“Dimpoz is healthy. [Contrary to what is being circulated online about his admission into ICU], the musician is recuperating at home.

In a June, 2018 video clip posted to his Instagram page, Ommy Dimpoz revealed that he had undergone a “major surgical operation”, and that he hoped all would go well.

“I passed through a difficult period after undergoing a major surgical procedure. I was hospitalised for 15 days after the surgical operation. I hope I will come back stronger. Currently, I am on bed rest. I thank everyone who sent me get-well-soon messages, and those who prayed for me. I believe everything will be fine,” he said in the video clip.
