The Ministry of Interior, led by CS Fred Matiang'i, will begin to supervise male circumcision in 2022, Nyandarua County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich has confirmed.
Cherutich explained that the Ministry had grown concerned over the deaths resulting from botched circumcisions.
"I have gone across the county and discovered that the exercise has been infiltrated by criminals who are misleading the young boys.
"They wait for the boys to leave reputable circumcision centres then raid their homes to brainwash them," Cherutich explained.
He further cautioned parents to be careful with who they leave their boys with after the initiation ceremonies.
"Parents must be very careful when appointing mentors for their boys. You don’t get a school dropout, a drunkard and a village idler to mentor your child.
"We will work with the church, Kikuyu Council of Elders, professionals and reputable counsellors to mentor the boys," he stated.
Initiates Die in Thika
Male initiates mainly undergo the cut mostly in December with the 2018 season having been marred with a number of deaths.
In Thika, Kandara MP Alice Wahome grieved a 14-year-old Juiano Kanyonyo who was allegedly attacked by gang members from the Mungiki sect who were offended by a gift offered by his mother.
In other regions of the country, boys were forced to undergo the cut for a second time after parents complained about incomplete procedures on their boys.
