DCI to Probe Governor Wahome Gakuru's Death



The Directorate of Criminal Investigation wrote to the Chief Magistrate’s court in Nyeri seeking for a public inquest into the road accident that killed Nyeri’s second Governor Wahome Gakuru.

The matter is expected to be mentioned on January 16, 2019, and it has been filed at the Criminal registry Nyeri Law courts.
Accident
Gakuru passed away in a road accident in the early morning accident which happened along Nyeri - Nairobi Highway on November 7, 2017.
The accident occurred at Makenji area along the Murang'a - Nairobi Highway around 7 am as he was travelling to Nairobi for a TV interview.

His vehicle veered off the road and rammed into a guardrail which ripped through the car from the spot he was sitting and emerged from the back.
He died as medics prepared to airlift him to Nairobi for specialised care.
Gakuru’s personal assistant had his right hand severed off his arm and also suffered a broken right leg.
Injuries
His bodyguard's legs were seriously injured while the driver sustained minor injuries.
His death was deep-felt, especially for residents who overwhelmingly elected him into office.

Gakuru's death came in the space of nine months from his predecessor Gachagua who succumbed to pancreatic cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London on February 24, 2017.
His Deputy Mutahi Kahiga was sworn into office as Governor.
