A former legislator has been accused of abandoning his fatherly duties from way back in 2007.
Ex Karachuonyo MP and now chairman of the board of directors at Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) Engineer James Rege has been accused by Delphene Atieno Muchanji of siring a child with her and taking off shortly after.
According to Ms Muchanji, the two started dating when she was 27 and at 35 years, she fell pregnant. This was in 2007, she told Kahawa Tungu.
It is then that things took a turn for the worst. He cut ties with now mother of one and only sent a little bit of money before and two years after she gave birth to their son.
“For 10 years! He just assisted before I gave birth and after a few months giving some Sh100,000 occasionally but for the last 8 years, nothing!” she laments.
Trying to get justice and for Mr Rege , 70, to at least provide for their child, the complainant dragged him to the Children’s court. But the former lawmaker bribed every single lawyer she got to present her.
Realizing that she was fighting a losing battle, Mr Muchanji gave up on the case all together.
“When I moved to court he bribed every lawyer that I got, at some point I had to represent myself because I couldn’t afford a lawyer which went south of course because of his status,” she continued.
Her case was dismissed only to be re-opened in March this year when she found a lawyer offering pro bono services. The case file that had gone missing was recovered in September, with some documents missing.
Mr Rege, a man of influence, is still frustrating the case, Kahawa Tungu has learnt and has made it impossible for the complainant to serve him with court sermons.
Ms Muchanji intimates that the former MP has moved houses and relatives known to her have declined to share his current address.
“All I want is for my boy to get the basics, ” she cries.
