American TV show host Ellen Degeneres surprised a Kenyan man while on her show for his acts of kindness.
The man only identified as Lawrence was handed a Sh2.5 million reward and a bunch of other gifts as he starts college in the US.
Lawrence told Ellen that he left Kenya for the American dream at the age of 19. A teenager then, Lawrence noted that when he first got to New Jersey, others made fun of his skin colour and his African accent but that did not deter him.
He is now a licensed nurse working with the old. He has been voted by his colleagues as one of the kindest people in the residence.
The Kenyan also stated that he works a 16 hour shift every single day so as to help pay school fees for his siblings; his sister is in college and his younger brother in high school.
Earlier on in the year, Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi stopped at the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi while on their way to Rwanda for the wildlife fund’s first project. They were building a permanent home for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund for the wild, endangered gorillas of Rwanda.
