Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday broke his silence, congratulating ODM boss Raila Odinga on the assumption of his new role at the Africa Union.
Mudavadi sent the congratulatory message through his Twitter handle, four days after the ODM Party leader accepted the AU appointment during this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kakamega.
Kenyans on Twitter were unamused by the move, notwithstanding Mudavadi had attended the Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Bukhungu Stadium.
Interestingly, Raila's adviser and former spokesperson Salim Lone was first to respond to Mudavadi saying, "Thank you DPM!"
Through his Twitter account, Mudavadi wrote, "I would like to congratulate my brother and colleague, Hon Raila Odinga on his appointment as African Union High Representative For Infrastructure Development. I wish you only the very best as you lend your wealth of experience to Africa. Hongera."
A number of Mudavadi's followers reacted to the message in dismay, wondering why it took him all that long before congratulating the ODM leader, who currently enjoys a cordial relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
On Saturday, when Odinga confirmed acceptance of the AU job, President Kenyatta praised his bold decision to work with him, challenging other opposition leaders to join him in serving the nation.
He called out Mudavadi's name alongside those of a host of leaders in the NASA coalition urging them to work with the government for the benefit and need to unite the country.
"Congratulations to my brother, Raila Odinga on your appointment today as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa. I wish you all the best in your new assignment," Kenyatta stated on Mashujaa Day.
