A man was on Tuesday caught on video attacking a police officer during riots in Litein Bureti constituency, Kericho county.
Reports indicate that high school teachers were demonstrating over the unresolved murder of one of their own.
Anti-riot police officers cornered and forcefully dispersed the teachers who were matching towards Litein town.
The team was protesting the slow pace of investigations into the death of former Cheborgei High School teacher Willy Sang and his wife Eveline who were murdered in cold blood in July 21.
When police lobbed teargas to intercept the demonstrators, a man wearing a yellow t-shirt dispersed alongside his peers.
However, midway the ensuing commotion, the man appears to have changed his mind and attacked a police officer who was ironically attacking a rioters.
The policeman is seen jerking into a halt as the attacker fled in a different direction an incident that left many netizens in disbelief.
The police officers were reportedly under the command of Bureti OCPD Mohammed Ali while the demonstrators were led by KUPPET acting national deputy chairman Julius Korir and Kericho branch executive Julius Mibei.
There exists a tense relationship between police and members of the public mainly due to historical cases of police brutality.
However, incidents of civilians attacking uniformed police officers are nevertheless uncommon.
