A teacher at the school only realised it was a condolence card on Tuesday, October 30, when he opened to read it to the candidates who were doing rehearsals ahead of the national exams, the Nation reported.

"We got many other cards but as usual, we gave mheshimiwa’s card some preference only to realise it was a condolence card,” the teacher told the publication.

Parents of the candidates were also perturbed by the MCA’s conduct and accused him of parading his ignorance by sending what they termed as inappropriate material to their children.

“We are deeply sorry for the loss. Please accept our heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts are with your family during this difficult times.” read the card.

In response to the mishap, Mirieri, a former teacher, pointed an accusing finger at his political opponents, claiming they replaced his success card in a bid to malign his image.

“I couldn’t do that my friend, that is the work of people, some of them former competitors,” Mireri said.
