The governor assured the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates that the county government that no exceptional student will miss out on the scholarship.
"My administration will sponsor the secondary education for all the KCPE candidates in Nairobi County who will score above 400 marks. I hope to have many of you scoring above 400 so that you can benefit from this sponsorship," the governor stated.
While on a visit to the Our Lady of Mercy Primary School, Starehe constituency, Governor Sonko also urged the pupils to take their education seriously as it would help them secure a good future.
"You must aim high and take your education seriously because your parents have sacrificed a lot for you in order for you to get a quality education.
"You are the future leaders. I went through a lot of challenges during my childhood and I am now the Governor of Nairobi City, therefore you should also strive to achieve success
"You still have ten days before the KCPE exams begin on October 30, so take your time to revise and prepare for the exams as per the timetable issued by the examination council. Remember to always pray before you start your exams and go through the exam questions keenly," the Governor urged.
The school’s Head Teacher Lucy Obonyo, who was present during Sonko's visit, thanked the Governor for his generosity and motivation to the candidates.
“This is the first time the candidates in this school are experiencing this. Some of them would not have received success cards and motivation if you did not visit our school.
"We thank the Governor for this and I’m requesting you to make this an annual event. I’m now appealing to the candidates to score above 400 marks in order to benefit from the Nairobi City County Government education scholarship for their secondary education,” stated the Head Teacher.
