Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi and his father Maina Wanjigi suffered a major blow after High court ruling in Nyeri County on Thursday.

Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi and his father Maina Wanjigi suffered a setback after Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) failed to withdraw criminal charges facing them.

The businessman through his defense lawyer Kiogora Mugambi, had filed an application before a High court in Nyeri to withdraw the charges.

His lawyer said when the applications came up for mention before Justice Pauline Nyamweya last week, the judge said he would not allow further delay in determining whether the criminal trial infringes on his client’s rights.
“The judge said she would not continue mentioning the matter in the hope that DPP was going to withdraw the charges at the lower court in Nyeri. She said it must continue and fixed a hearing date,” Mr Mugambi said.
The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) however, failed to confirm withdrawal of charges facing them when the matter appeared before Nyeri Resident Magistrate Ruth Kefa.
In October last year, the controversial business mogul was forced to take action by moving to court after Recce Squad officers broke into his lavish home in Muthaiga using cutters and sledge hammers.
