Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and his Transport counterpart James Macharia on Thursday issued a notice to all Public Service Vehicles (PSV) in a bid to tame rogue drivers and their touts.
A statement signed by the CSs warned that all matatus must comply with the "Michuki Rules" in three weeks time or risk being dealt with as per the law.
Here is a list of rules all PSVs must adhere to before the Monday crackdown:
1. Owners of matatus were asked to ensure that their vehicles have speed governors/limiters.
2. All matatus were ordered to ensure they have efficient safety belts on each seat.
3 The PSVs should have a continuous yellow line by Monday, 12th November or risk being pulled from the roads.
4 All drivers and conductors were directed to wear their uniforms and have their badges as required by law.
5 Drivers and conductors were further urged to display their photos as prescribed by the Constitution.
"Consequently, and in accordance with the NTSA Act 2013, the Traffic Act Cap. 403, and Legal Notice 161 of 2003 commonly known as Michuki Rules, the government reiterates that all PSVs must have the required provisions," the Notice stated.
"Therefore, effective Monday, 12th November 2018, any PSV vehicle, drivers, SACCOs/Transport companies, passengers and other relevant parties that fail to comply with the provisions of the NTSA Act and the Traffic Act will be firmly dealt with in accordance with the law," the Notice added.
